What is Lectio?
"Lectio" is short for Lectio Divina, a sacred reading practice that dates back to twelfth-century monasteries. When we practice the art of sacred reading, we adopt a belief that the books we read can invite not only enjoyment, but also layered meanings that speak to us in our everyday lives. In these workshops tailored to each passing season, rather than turning to more traditional sacred texts for our readings, we will instead find rich and textured meaning in a different novel each time. We'll explore a passage from the chosen novel using four steps:
Step 1: Context.
Step 2: Connection.
Step 3: Reflection.
Step 4: Inspiration.
"Sounds great! Do I need to have read the entire novel we're discussing?"
While having a more comprehensive idea of the book's storyline and structure and style certainly helps with the Lectio Divina process, don't let that bar you from entry! If you've read even part of the book, or simply want to soak in/be part of a lively discussion, please join us.
